She covered sports for some of the largest outlets in the United States. The newspaper she worked for was The Washington Post nearly a decade covering Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football, as well playing basketball in multiple Olympics. Nichols spent nine years at ESPN which was where she earned 2 Emmy Awards. Her Monday Night Football coverage as a team reporter was an integral part of her job at the network. After that, she was transferred onto CNN Sports and Turner. The show she first created and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded featuring Rachel Nichols, and aired regularly on CNN as well as CNN International. Over 1 billion viewers were watching it around the world. Nichols was employed by TNT as a broadcaster who reported on NBA games including playoffs, regular season and All Star broadcasts. In addition to covering for TBS as well, she was also a reporter for baseball and golf broadcasts and Final Four on CBS. Only a woman has been selected amongst more than two hundred nominees in the 42-year old history of the honor.
