Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a radio and TV reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located situated in Washington DC. In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. In 1992, she was named Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the 1988 debates between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's terms as President. She reported on a variety of interesting stories such as arm control, budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell went on numerous trips together with the President Reagan to meetings together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
